Austin Peay State University Softball Defeats Lipscomb 4-0 in Non-Conference Matchup

The Austin Peay State University (APSU) softball team secured a dominant 4-0 victory over Lipscomb in a non-conference game held at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field. Led by their exceptional pitching and strong offensive performance, the APSU Govs took control of the game from the start.
Morgan Zuege and Kylie Campbell ignited the offense for Austin Peay, each delivering consecutive singles. Brie Howard then stepped up and crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left-center field fence for her second home run of the season, propelling the APSU Govs to an early 3-0 lead. The team added one more run in the inning when Macee Roberts doubled down the right field line and later scored on a single by Kiley Hinton.
The APSU Govs' pitching was exceptional, as Jordan Benefiel (5-5) and Samantha Miener combined to shut out the Bisons for the remainder of the game. Benefiel pitched the first four innings, allowing only three hits and striking out five. Miener, on the other hand, earned her first save of the season by pitching three scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits and striking out two.
Austin Peay State University now holds a 14-28 record against Lipscomb, winning their last four encounters. Kylie Campbell extended her hitting streak to five games, while Samantha Miener continued her impressive performance by not allowing an earned run in her last 20 and two-thirds innings pitched.
The shutout against Lipscomb marked the APSU Govs' fifth shutout victory of the season and their fourth combined shutout. Furthermore, Austin Peay State University has an 8-1 record in games where they score at least four runs. Samantha Miener's save in this game also moved her into a tie for fifth place in career saves, with a total of four.

The APSU softball team will be hosting the inaugural Cathi Maynard Invitational at Cathi Maynard Park-Cheryl Holt Field. The tournament, taking place from Friday to Monday, will feature teams from Akron, Bradley, and Rhode Island.
